The Aguan Navigation and Improvement Company was an American-chartered concession operating along the Río Aguán in Honduras, granted rights to clear the river, build infrastructure, and collect tolls in the 1880s. Company scrip of this kind was a practical necessity in remote concession zones where Honduran government currency rarely circulated in adequate supply — workers and local traders had little choice but to accept it.

Homer Lee Bank Note Company held a relatively brief window of operation before being absorbed into American Bank Note Company in 1891, which gives this note a tight production window and a specific house style recognizable to specialists in the genre.
