Reverse description The right-facing profile bust of a Mayan dignitary or deity, derived from a stucco relief at the ancient Maya city of Palenque, occupies the right portion of the field, rendered in high relief with an elaborate feathered and carved headdress rising above the head. To the left of the bust, the large denomination numeral 50 with a cent symbol is inscribed in the field, with the date 1983 below. The inscription PALENQUE appears vertically along the upper left field. Decorative geometric borders frame the left and right margins, and the mint mark Mo appears near the base of the bust.
