| Obverse description | Left-facing bust of Effigy of Brazil, depicted as a classical allegorical female figure with flowing, wavy hair adorned by a five-pointed star at the crown. The legend BRASIL arcs along the left rim in incuse Latin lettering, with a small six-pointed star positioned at the lower rim below the truncation. The portrait is rendered in a neoclassical style with fine detail in the hair treatment, filling the majority of the field. |

| Additional information |
This issue belongs to the period when Brazil's military government was actively suppressing economic data — official inflation figures were routinely falsified downward while the cost of living climbed sharply. The stainless steel composition was itself a concession to rising metal costs, replacing the earlier nickel-clad steel version of the same denomination mid-series without fanfare or public announcement.
