Additional information

This type spans a particularly turbulent stretch of Mexican fiscal history. The peso system came under sustained pressure through the late 1970s as oil revenues masked deepening structural deficits, and by 1982 the government had nationalized the banking sector and allowed the peso to collapse — losing roughly 70% of its value against the dollar in a single year. Coins of this denomination effectively vanished from meaningful circulation well before the series ended.

The 1983 date is the final year before the 50 centavos denomination was suspended entirely, rendered obsolete by inflation rather than by any formal demonetization decree.
