Obverse description The Mexican national arms occupy the central field, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, grasping a serpent in its beak and talons. The eagle is shown in left profile with wings slightly raised and detailed feather work rendered in high relief. A wreath of laurel and oak frames the base of the device. The circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin letters, with a continuous beaded border encircling the entire design.
