| Reverse description | The reverse bears the bold numeral '50' prominently centered in the field, with the denomination CENTAVOS inscribed in a straight legend beneath it. The circular legend REPÚBLICA·PORTUGUESA arcs around the upper periphery, framing the denomination in a clean, unadorned composition characteristic of Portuguese colonial coinage of the mid-twentieth century. A small mint mark dot appears at the base of the design. |

Portuguese Guinea's 1952 bronze coinage arrived well after the colony had settled into administrative stagnation under Lisbon's Estado Novo regime. Salazar's government maintained a deliberate policy of minimal monetary investment in its African territories, issuing coins infrequently and in small runs. The 1952 date is one of only a handful of distinct years struck for this denomination across the entire colonial period.
