| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin with a square central hole. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central perforation, reading top-to-bottom then right-to-left: 咸 (Xian) at top, 豐 (Feng) at bottom, 重 (Zhong) at right, and 寶 (Bao) at left. The characters are boldly rendered in relief within a plain, unadorned field, with a raised inner rim surrounding the square hole and a raised outer rim encircling the coin. |
