Reverse description The reverse presents a central square perforation bordered by raised inner and outer rims. To the right of the hole appears the Manchu script inscription ᠪᠣᠣ ᠴᡳᠣᠸᠠᠨ (Boo-chiowan), identifying the Board of Revenue Mint in Beijing. To the left is the corresponding Chinese character 當 (Dang, meaning 'equivalent to'), with 五十 (Wu Shi, 'fifty') reading vertically below and to the left of the square hole, together indicating a denomination of 50 cash. The characters are cast in bold, raised relief consistent with the monumental scale of this large-type issue. The field is plain and undecorated, with the mint and denomination inscriptions symmetrically distributed around the central perforation.
