Banco Agrícola was Bolivia's agricultural development bank, established in the late nineteenth century to finance rural credit — a sector the Bolivian state had largely ignored. Its note-issuing privileges placed it alongside the commercial banks that dominated the country's fragmented, regionally fractured currency supply before the Banco de la Nación Bolivia centralized control in 1911.

Bradbury Wilkinson handled much of Latin America's private bank paper at this period, and their work for Bolivian provincial issuers is consistently well-executed intaglio. The S-prefix in the Pick reference designates this as a private bank issue, not a state or central bank obligation — a distinction that mattered enormously to holders during Bolivia's periodic banking crises of the early 1900s.
