Venezuela's hyperinflationary collapse makes the printing quantity here almost ironic. By the time this note entered circulation in 2018, the country's annualized inflation rate had already exceeded one million percent — a figure the IMF calculated at roughly 1,370,000% for that year alone. Fifty bolívares, at any point during 2018, could not purchase a single piece of chewing gum.
The modest security package reflects a broader institutional unraveling. Bolívar Fuerte notes had already been rendered worthless before the sovereign bolívar redenomination stripped five zeros in August 2018.
