| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of Pope Gregory XVI wearing a skullcap (zucchetto) and richly ornamented mozetta with elaborate foliate and scroll decoration at the collar. The papal effigy is rendered in high relief in a neoclassical style. The Latin legend GREGORIVS·XVI arcs along the left periphery, and PON·MAX·A·XVI continues along the right. The engraver's initials N.C. appear in the lower field, with the mint mark R below the bust truncation, all within a toothed border. |
