| Obverse description | Blue and pink lithographed note with a central guilloche panel bearing the large numeral '50' above the denomination legend 'CINQUENTA AVOS'. A vignette to the left depicts a Chinese junk under sail on open water, while to the right a circular medallion carries the Banco Nacional Ultramarino seal with a sailing ship.
