Obverse description	Central field displays the denomination numeral '50' in large characters below the word 'ariary' in smaller lettering, the whole framed by an open wreath of olive and grain branches tied at the base with a small circular ornament. Above the wreath, a five-pointed star surmounts the composition. The peripheral legend 'REPOBLIKAN'I MADAGASIKARA' curves along the upper rim, while the date '1996' appears in the exergue below the wreath, all struck on an eleven-sided flan.
