Obverse description Central vignette of Salvador Correia de Sá e Benevides (1594–1602), the Portuguese admiral and colonial administrator who repelled the Dutch invasion of Salvador, Brazil in 1625 and recaptured Angola and São Tomé from the Dutch in 1648, set against a vignette of a waterfall. The design is executed in intaglio with fine guilloche underprint work framing the central portrait and landscape elements.

Reverse description The central vignette, printed in intaglio in a deep plum-purple palette, presents a recumbent leopard at rest amid dense tropical vegetation, rendered with fine engraved detail. Flanking the central panel are two large circular guilloche rosettes — a wavy lathe-work medallion to the left and a floral engine-turned pattern to the right — both serving as underprint security elements. The denomination numeral "50" appears in large script at upper left and right, with the bank name arched at the top and the value legend centered below the main vignette, above the printer's imprint.
