Reverse description A stylized ox (Bos taurus) is depicted in left profile, filling the central field, rendered in a distinctive geometric mosaic pattern of intersecting polygonal facets that creates a striking sculptural effect. The animal stands on a textured rocky ground, with its head lowered slightly and its form conveying solidity and strength. At the top of the design, within an octagonal frame, appears the Chinese character 牛 (ox). The legend LUNAR OUNCE arcs along the left field and 2021 appears to the upper right, while YEAR OF THE OX is inscribed in a small cartouche at the base of the design and 1oz FINE SILVER 999 arcs along the right field.

Additional information

Rwanda has issued a long-running lunar series through the Bavarian State Mint, and this Ox entry falls squarely within that program. The National Bank of Rwanda functions here essentially as a licensing authority — the coins are produced in Munich, sold to international collectors, and rarely if ever circulate within Rwanda itself.

The Ox year ran from January 2021 through January 2022.
