Obverse description Portrait vignette of King Muhammad Zahir Shah at left, in military uniform, set within an oval frame against a lilac guilloche underprint. The bank title in Dari script appears across the top centre, with the denomination numerals in Arabic-Indic script at upper right and lower left. Two signature facsimiles appear across the centre of the note, flanked by ornate arabesque corner motifs and the Afghan state seal at lower right.

Reverse description Central vignette of the Independence Monument (Minaret of Knowledge and Ignorance) in Kabul, rendered in fine intaglio engraving, set within an elaborate arch-shaped guilloche border. The denomination '50' appears in large numerals at right, with '50 AFGHANIS' inscribed at lower centre and additional Dari script legends running along the lower margin. The bank title in Dari script is repeated at the top of the note.
