Obverse description Portrait vignette of Chiang Kai-shek in military uniform at right, rendered in intaglio against a red guilloche underprint. A large scalloped central panel bears the denomination characters 伍萬圓 in bold letterpress, flanked by two seal cartouches at lower left and lower right. Corner rosettes carry the denomination 伍萬 in Chinese characters, and the issuer's title 中央銀行 appears in large characters across the top.

Reverse description Vignette of the Central Bank of China building in Nanjing occupies the left half of the note, rendered in fine intaglio line work with a flagpole visible above the roofline. To the right, a large scalloped guilloche medallion bears the numeral 50000 and the English legend FIFTY THOUSAND GOLD YUAN on a banner across its centre. Two facsimile signatures appear below the medallion, captioned GENERAL MANAGER and GOVERNOR respectively, with the year 1949 enclosed in a decorative cartouche at the foot.
