The Eurasian Economic Union, formed in May 2015 among Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan, was the culmination of over two decades of post-Soviet integration efforts — a project Kazakhstan's Nursultan Nazarbayev had championed since the early 1990s.
