The 50,000 Riel denomination has existed in Cambodian currency since 1998, positioned at the high end of everyday notes rather than as a collector or commemorative issue. Cambodia's economy remains substantially dollarized — US dollars circulate freely alongside Riels for large transactions — which has historically compressed demand for high-denomination Riel notes and kept many examples in comparatively light use.
