Muhsin Ertuğrul dominated Turkish theatre and cinema for over half a century — founding the first permanent Turkish theatre company, directing the country's earliest feature films, and training virtually every significant stage actor of the mid-20th century. This 1992 commemorative was issued the year after his death, part of a broader Darphane program honoring cultural figures that ran through the 1990s alongside similar issues for poets, composers, and statesmen.
The series was struck in relatively modest quantities and saw negligible circulation, as intended. Most examples were sold directly to collectors through PTT post offices and the mint itself.
