Manzherok is a ski resort in the Altai Republic of Russia, developed aggressively after 2007 when Sberbank acquired the site and began a long-running expansion backed by federal tourism investment. Its appearance on a Lao commemorative has nothing to do with Laotian monetary history — this is contract coinage, struck for the collector market and issued under the Bank of the Lao PDR purely as a licensing arrangement, a practice that has made the institution one of the more prolific issuers of themed silver for the numismatic trade over the past decade.
