| Obverse description | Printed in red and black on pink paper, the note is divided into two sections: a wide main panel to the left and a narrower coupon stub to the right. The main panel carries a dashed-border frame enclosing the denomination in large bold Gothic type, with a red numerical underprint of '50000000' spanning the centre; the issuing authority 'Stadt Eschweiler – Stadt Stolberg' is inscribed at the top, followed by 'Gutschein über' and several lines of legal text giving acceptance conditions and the issue date of 16 September 1923, concluded by 'Die Bürgermeister' above two manuscript signatures and the circular municipal seals of both cities. The right-hand stub bears a stamp-style vignette of a helmeted female head in profile, framed within a decorative cartouche, with '50 Millionen' denominations printed above and below. |

Eschweiler and Stolberg were neighboring industrial towns in the Rhineland, both heavily involved in zinc and copper smelting, and both issuing Notgeld during the hyperinflation peak of 1923 independently of the Reichsbank. A joint 50-million-mark issue from two municipalities was administratively convenient — it spread printing costs and simplified wage payments at the large metalworks that employed most of both towns' labor forces.
By the time notes at this denomination were being issued, the figure itself was nearly meaningless. The Rentenmark reform arrived in November 1923, after which virtually all municipal paper of this type was demonetized and destroyed. Survivors are common enough to be affordable but scarce in undamaged condition, since most circulated hard and fast in the weeks they were valid.
