Obverse description The Polish state eagle — an uncrowned, spread-winged raptor facing right in the People's Republic style — occupies the central field, rendered in bold relief with detailed feathering. The circular legend POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA runs along the upper periphery, while the date 1958, flanked by two small stars, appears in the lower exergual area. The design follows the standard PRL heraldic type used throughout the communist-era coinage.

Additional information

The 1958 Polish trial strikes represent the People's Republic's intensive effort to redesign its circulating coinage following Gomułka's return to power after the October 1956 thaw. Multiple compositions and relief variants were tested before the final aluminium-bronze 5 Złotych type was approved. This nickel version with clouds — distinguished from the cloudless trial ParM#227b — never advanced beyond the pattern stage, and surviving examples were almost certainly distributed through official Polish state numismatic channels rather than ever reaching general circulation.
