| Reverse description | The reverse presents a boldly composed design divided between a detailed photographic enlargement of the historical denarius of Bolesław II the Bold, centrally positioned and rendered in high relief with visible details of the original medieval coin's imagery including a figure and heraldic elements within a beaded border. To the left, a monochromatic architectural depiction of a Romanesque rotunda or chapel — likely referencing a Piast-era sacred building — occupies the lower left field, rendered in a matte finish against the polished proof background. The curved legend 'DENAR BOLESŁAWA II ŚMIAŁEGO' arches across the upper portion of the field in bold incuse lettering. The composition effectively juxtaposes medieval coinage heritage with Romanesque ecclesiastical architecture, underscoring the historical context of Bolesław II's reign in eleventh-century Poland. |

| Additional information |
This piece belongs to NBP's long-running series commemorating coins from Poland's medieval royal mints. The specific subject — the denarius of Bolesław II the Bold — dates to a reign that ended abruptly in 1079 when the king was exiled following the murder of Bishop Stanisław of Szczepanów, an act that triggered his excommunication and permanent removal from the throne. The original denarii from his reign are among the earliest Polish coins to carry a ruler's name, a significant step in asserting dynastic identity through currency.
Bolesław II had restored the Polish kingdom and received a royal crown in 1076 — the first such coronation in over four decades.
