The Bilet Państwowy — a state treasury note rather than a central bank issue — reflects an unusual arrangement in interwar Poland, where the Ministry of Skarbu issued low-denomination notes in parallel with the Bank Polski. The 5 Złoty denomination was introduced as Poland was still stabilizing the złoty, which had replaced the heavily inflated marka zaledwie two years earlier in 1924.
The Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartościowych had only been established in 1919, making this among its earlier domestic productions for circulating currency. P#49 is a relatively common survivor — the denomination saw heavy daily use, which means worn examples substantially outnumber anything approaching fine condition.
