| Obverse description | Cast bronze cash coin of the standard Wu Zhu type, featuring a central square perforation flanked by two Chinese seal-script characters reading right to left: 銖 (Zhu) to the right of the hole and 五 (Wu) to the left. The characters are rendered in raised relief within a plain, flat field bounded by a raised inner rim around the square hole and a broad raised outer rim. A distinctive feature of this variety is the presence of a raised line (rim) along the right side of the reverse hole, visible as an extension of the inner rim on the obverse. The coin displays an even patina consistent with early Sui dynasty production. |
