| Reverse description | The reverse features a three-quarter seated effigy of Zheng He, the celebrated Ming dynasty admiral and explorer, rendered in the style of a monumental statue. He is depicted in full ceremonial court robes, holding a scroll in his hands, set against a mirror field. To the left, a large multi-masted Chinese treasure junk (baochuan) sails upon stylized waves, with an oar in the foreground. A smaller vessel appears to the right amid waves. The denomination 5元 is inscribed to the upper left of the figure, and the dates 公元1371-1435年 (AD 1371–1435) appear in a vertical legend along the right side, with a decorative floral motif above. |
