| Reverse description | The central field presents two robed scholars of the imperial era seated cross-legged on mats, engaged in a game of Weiqi (Go) played upon a low board positioned between them, with ceramic vessels and a bowl visible nearby. In the upper portion of the field, a secondary vignette depicts stylized rockwork, clouds, a traditional Chinese pavilion, and a group of additional seated figures observing the game. The denomination 5元 appears in the upper right field. At the base, the inscription 围棋 (Weiqi/Go) is followed by the legend 始于公元前八世纪, indicating the game's origins in the 8th century BC. The composition is executed in finely frosted relief against mirror proof fields. |
