Comments

The 1936 Central Bank of China notes were printed by Waterlow & Sons in London during a period when the Nationalist government was actively consolidating its currency system following the 1935 fabi reforms, which had abolished the silver standard and centralised note-issuing authority among four government banks. Waterlow was handling significant Chinese government business in this period alongside De La Rue, and the quality of intaglio work on this series reflects that competition.

Huang Guiteng served as Governor; H.L. Lichia as Deputy Governor. The combination of these two signatures places the note firmly within a narrow administrative window before wartime disruption fractured both the government and its currency operations.
