Reverse description At center, a finely detailed representation of a Shang dynasty bronze ram-form ritual vessel (yangzun) is depicted in left-facing profile, its body elaborately decorated with taotie mask motifs rendered in low relief, and a small bird finial atop its back. Along the upper left arc of the field, the inscription 公元前1766-前1122 denotes the Shang dynasty period (1766–1122 BC) in Chinese characters interspersed with Arabic numerals. The denomination 5元 is inscribed in the lower field in bold characters. The design is set against a deeply mirrored proof field with a milled border.
