The Shensi-Kansu-Ninghsia Border Region was the Communist Party's administrative base at Yan'an, and the bank operating there functioned as much as a political instrument as a financial one. Notes issued from 1941 onward were part of a deliberate push to displace Nationalist fabi currency from local circulation — a monetary contest running parallel to the military one. The border area banks printed aggressively, and inflation followed.
Pick S3655 belongs to a series that saw extremely heavy wartime use in a rural economy with limited alternatives. Survivors in any condition above heavily worn are genuinely uncommon.
