China began issuing commemorative coins for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics well in advance of the Games, releasing multiple series across 2021 and 2022. This 15g silver issue belongs to one of the smaller-denomination tranches in that program — the ¥5 face value placing it below the larger ¥10 and ¥50 pieces that dominated collector attention. The color-printing technique applied to the reverse was by then standard practice for the Chinese Mint on Olympic commemoratives, having been refined across the 2008 Beijing Summer Games series.
