Obverse description The state emblem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea occupies the central field, depicting a hydroelectric dam and power pylon framed by sheaves of rice, surmounted by a five-pointed star radiating rays above a mountain landscape; the emblem bears an inner legend on its ribbon. The circular legend in Korean (Hangul) reads around the upper periphery, identifying the issuing institution. The fineness indicator '15g' appears to the lower left and '999' to the lower right of the emblem, with the face value '5 WON' inscribed along the lower rim, flanked by decorative foliate sprays.
