Four large Chinese characters in bold relief are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central hole: 富 (above), 壽 (below), 男 (left), and a fourth character to the right, composing the auspicious four-character legend 富壽男婦, translating as 'Wealth, Longevity, Sons, and Wives.' The characters are rendered in a confident regular script, conveying traditional Vietnamese imperial wishes for prosperity and fecundity to the bearer. |
