Reverse description Crowned quartered arms of Hesse-Cassel displayed on an ornate shield, supported on either side by elaborate foliate and laurel branches tied at the base, forming a wreath-like arrangement. The quartered escutcheon incorporates the traditional heraldic devices of the Hessian electorate including the lion, the cross, and ermine fields. The denomination 5 · THALER · appears in the upper legend above the crown, and the date 1823 is placed in the exergue below the shield. A beaded inner border runs around the entire reverse field.
