Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Frederick Francis I, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, in left-facing profile, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and beard stubble. The effigy occupies the central field with a naturalistic, portrait-style treatment characteristic of early 19th-century German coinage. The encircling legend reads FRIEDR FRANZ V G G GROSSHERZOG V MECKLENBURG SCHW, separated from the reeded rim by a narrow border.

Reverse description The full crowned coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin is displayed at center, a quartered shield incorporating the heraldic charges of the duchy, flanked by elaborate mantling and supported by draped curtains falling to either side. A royal crown surmounts the shield. The date inscription D 28 MAERZ 1828 appears in the lower exergual area beneath the arms, referencing the 28th of March 1828.
