| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in dark olive-brown intaglio on cream paper, centred on the bold blackletter title 'Fünf Thaler' surmounted by an ornate guilloche cartouche, with two large circular coin-like vignettes at left and right — each enclosed in an elaborate baroque foliate frame — bearing the royal Saxon arms and a crowned portrait medallion respectively. Denomination numerals '5' appear in each corner, and a text block at the lower centre cites the issuing authority and the authorising law of 6 September 1855, followed by two facsimile commissioner signatures. The example shown carries a large red ink cancellation cross and multiple purple 'Ungültig' (invalid) overprint stamps indicating demonetisation. |
