Obverse description The Samoan coat of arms is centrally displayed, featuring a quartered shield bearing a palm tree over ocean waves in the upper half and five stars of the Southern Cross constellation in the lower half, surmounted by a radiant Christian cross. The shield is flanked by two olive branches and supported by a ribbon banner inscribed with the national motto in Samoan. The legend SAMOA arcs along the upper periphery, and the denomination $5 appears in the lower field.

Reverse description The central field depicts a finely engraved scene of three robed figures resting in a mountainous nocturnal landscape beneath a star-filled sky, illustrating the observance of the Sabbath as prescribed by the Third Commandment. A decorative inner border of ornamental motifs frames the central scene. In the lower exergue, two stone tablets bearing Roman numeral inscriptions representing the Ten Commandments are depicted, accompanied by the designation III. Lex and the date 2012. The Latin legend MEMENTO, UT DIEM SABBATI SANCTIFICES arcs along the upper border, with the English translation Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy inscribed in a secondary inner arc.
