| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Samoa occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield bearing a coconut palm above ocean waves in the upper half and the Southern Cross constellation of five stars in the lower half, encircled by a globe and flanked by two olive branches. A radiant Christian cross surmounts the shield at the top. A scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto in Samoan: FAAVAE I LE ATUA SAMOA. The legend SAMOA arcs along the upper rim, and the denomination $5 appears in the lower field. |
