| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, diademed and with elaborately styled hair, as engraved by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials 'IRB' appear below the truncation. The legend 'SAMOA 2017' arcs across the upper field, while the inscriptions '1 oz' and 'Ag999' flank the Samoan coat of arms positioned at the base of the design. The coat of arms, rendered in fine detail, is enclosed within a circular inner border that frames the entire composition. |

Kennedy was 46 when he was shot in Dallas in November 1963, meaning he would have turned 100 in May 2017 — the centennial that prompted a wave of commemorative issues from mints worldwide, Samoa's among them. The Pacific island nation has no particular historical connection to Kennedy, but its liberal licensing arrangements with the Pobjoy Mint and similar producers have made it a frequent vehicle for this kind of international commemorative program.
