The P#46 series bridges an awkward transitional period for Bangladesh Bank — by the mid-2000s, the 5 Taka denomination was already too small for practical daily use, yet political resistance to eliminating low denominations kept it in print. Inflation had effectively made the note a nuisance rather than a useful instrument of exchange.

Watermark-only security on a paper note of this value was already behind contemporary standards at the time of issue. No security thread, no fluorescent ink — the specification reflects budget priorities, not oversight.
