Obverse description The national emblem of Bangladesh rendered in relief at center, depicting a water lily (shapla) framed on either side by upright rice sheaves. Above the lily, a trefoil of tea leaves is flanked by two stars on each side, representing the four founding principles of the 1972 constitution: nationalism, secularism, socialism, and democracy. The legend in Bengali script appears along the upper periphery, identifying the issuing authority.

Additional information

Bangladesh introduced stainless steel coinage for higher-denomination circulating pieces in the early 2000s as part of a broader effort to reduce production costs and extend coin longevity in a high-humidity tropical circulation environment. The 5 Taka denomination had previously been struck in cupro-nickel, a composition abandoned largely on cost grounds. The KM#26 series spans three die varieties across the 2005–2008 window, distinguished by minor legend and date punch differences documented in Schön's catalog.
