| Obverse description | Central field bearing the crowned municipal arms of Amsterdam, rendered in low relief on a roughly finished silver klippe flan with clipped corners. Amsterdam's 1578 siege coinage was produced under acute pressure — the city was then still held by Spanish loyalists, and the surrounding Orangist forces had cut off normal supply lines. Emergency issues of this kind were struck from whatever silver could be gathered locally, which explains the irregular weight tolerances seen across surviving specimens. The HPM reference series documents at least two distinct die pairings for this type.
