Additional information

Vic's 1642 emission belongs to the Corpus de Sang revolt — the Reapers' War — during which Catalonia renounced Philip IV of Spain and placed itself under French protection as a nominally separate principality under Louis XIII. The crown of France authorized local minting across Catalan towns to fund the conflict, and Vic was among the municipalities granted that right. The arrangement lasted until Barcelona fell to Castilian forces in 1652, ending twelve years of fractured monetary authority across the principality.
