Obverse description Right-facing youthful effigy of Louis XIV, depicted with long flowing hair and a laureate head, the shoulders draped and cuirassed in the manner of a Roman emperor. The finely engraved portrait displays the king's juvenile features characteristic of the early coinage of his reign. The bust is set within a toothed border, with the royal legend distributed around the periphery of the field.
