| Reverse description | Green intaglio print with a central vignette of oil industry workers at a drilling site, rendered in fine line engraving typical of American Bank Note Company production. A black letterpress overprint is applied across the face of the note, superimposing the new denomination and the name of the issuing authority, thereby converting the original half Libra Peruana de Oro note into a 5 Soles de Oro obligation of the Banco Central de Reserva del Perú. |
| Reverse lettering | BANCO DE RESERVA DEL PERU 1/2 MEDIA LIBRA PERUANA DE ORO Banco Central de Reserva del Perú Cinco Soles Oro (Translation: Reserve Bank of Peru Half Libra Peruana de Oro Central Reserve Bank of Peru Five Soles Oro) |

Pick 56 is a transitional issue — the Banco Central de Reserva del Perú applied an overprint to existing Pick 48 stock rather than commissioning a new plate, a stopgap that reflected the administrative complications of Peru's monetary reorganization following the central bank's formal establishment in 1931. The overprint method was common practice for the BCR during the early-to-mid 1930s as it worked through inherited note inventory while standardizing its own series.
ABNC-printed Peruvian notes of this period are frequently found with ink oxidation along fold lines, a known characteristic of the paper stock used for the underlying Pick 48 base notes.
