Additional information

Ferdinando I ruled Parma and Piacenza as separate duchies nominally under Bourbon family ties but practically under heavy Habsburg influence through his wife, Maria Amalia of Austria. The billon coinage of this period reflects the chronic shortage of sound silver in the smaller Italian states — these fractional pieces circulated hard through market towns along the Po Valley. The C#6.2 designation distinguishes this from the earlier C#6.1 variety, differentiated by minor die characteristics documented by Cud and Cud.
