Obverse description The Somali national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield adorned with a five-pointed star, supported by two leopards rampant on either side, with crossed palm fronds and a ribbon below. The circular legend 'SOMALI REPUBLIC' arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination '5 SHILLINGS' is inscribed along the lower rim. A fine beaded border frames the entire design. The composition is rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field.

Additional information

Part of a long-running bullion series issued under Somalian licensing authority but produced and distributed entirely outside the country, these fractional silver pieces have no meaningful connection to Somali monetary policy or circulation. The elephant series is essentially a private bullion product using a sovereign issuer's legal imprimatur — a common arrangement in the fractional precious metals market since the 1990s.
