Edward VIII abdicated on 11 December 1936, before a single coin bearing his effigy entered circulation anywhere in the British Empire. Southern Rhodesia had dies prepared and was among the territories that produced pattern or trial pieces during the brief interregnum. This piece dates to 1937 — George VI's coronation year — which places it outside any legitimate Edward VIII production window and firmly in the category of fantasy or medallic issue rather than a sanctioned colonial coinage.
