Obverse description Green and red on multicolour underprint, with the Central Bank of Nigeria headquarters building vignette at centre-left rendered in intaglio. A large guilloche medallion occupies the right field, with Arabic script inscription below. The issuer title and promise-to-pay legend appear in the upper portion, with two manuscript signatures below the vignette for the Governor and General Manager.
Obverse lettering FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA 5/- CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA promise to pay on demand the sum of FIVE SHILLINGS GOVERNOR GENERAL MANAGER خمسة شلنات
Reverse description Printed entirely in green, the reverse carries a central intaglio vignette of two timber workers cross-cutting a large felled log at a sawmill yard, with wood shavings strewn across the ground and a forest tree line visible in the background. Ornate guilloche rosettes occupy the four corners, and the denomination is repeated in the corner numerals and in the lower border panel.
